Exceed Safety is striving to become a world leader in workplace safety.
To accomplish that mission, we are building a team capable of attracting exceptional talent, developing future safety leaders, and positively influencing more than 5,000 workers every day across dozens of trades, crafts, and industries.
We are seeking an experienced Senior Safety Consultant with a strong Safety Director background to serve as a trusted safety resource for our clients and internal team.
This is not a traditional in-house Safety Director position. We need a seasoned safety leader who can bring sound judgment, technical knowledge, practical experience, and calm leadership into complex and changing client environments.
An Honest Look at This Opportunity
If your primary goal is simply finding the biggest paycheck, this may not be the right opportunity for you.
But if you want to learn at an accelerated pace, influence the safety of thousands of workers, develop the next generation of safety professionals, solve challenging problems, and leave a meaningful professional legacy, this may be the place for you.
The expectations are high. The work can be demanding. Client needs change, field conditions evolve, and difficult decisions sometimes must be made with limited time and incomplete information.
For the right safety leader, that is exactly what makes this opportunity meaningful.
Position Overview
Based in Charlotte, North Carolina, this individual will serve as an on-call senior safety resource for assigned clients, providing leadership, guidance, field support, and practical solutions as safety needs arise.
The ideal candidate has previously served as a Safety Director, Corporate Safety Manager, EHS Director, or similar senior safety leader. This person has significant experience leading safety programs, managing teams, advising operations, coaching employees, and making sound decisions in the field.
You will work across multiple companies, projects, trades, and industries—learning from each environment while helping clients strengthen their people, programs, and safety cultures.
More Than a Consultant
We are looking for a servant leader, talent magnet, trusted communicator, and thought leader.
We do not need someone who must always be the smartest person in the room. We need someone who makes everyone in the room smarter.
Inspired by the leadership principles in Multipliers, we want someone who recognizes talent, develops capability in others, asks thoughtful questions, and creates opportunities for people to accomplish more than they believed possible.
Your influence may also extend beyond client engagements through conferences, professional articles, associations, leadership boards, and other opportunities to represent Exceed Safety and advance the safety profession.
Key Responsibilities

Provide responsive, on-call safety leadership and support.
Evaluate and improve safety programs, policies, procedures, and field practices.

Coach and mentor safety personnel, supervisors, operational leaders, and employees.
Develop internal team members and emerging safety professionals.
Assist with incident investigations, root-cause analyses, and corrective actions.
Support OSHA compliance and regulatory inspection preparation and response.
Deliver safety meetings, employee training, leadership development, and executive coaching.
Bring clarity and calm to complex or high-pressure situations.
Build trusted relationships from the field level to executive leadership.
Contribute to safety thought leadership through articles, presentations, and industry involvement.
Travel regionally to client locations as needed.

10+ years of safety management or leadership experience, including significant experience at the Safety Director, Corporate Safety Manager, EHS Director, or comparable level.

Strong knowledge of OSHA regulations and construction safety practices.
Experience developing, implementing, and managing comprehensive safety programs.
Experience working with executives, operations, field management, supervisors, safety personnel, and employees.
Strong communication, coaching, problem-solving, and relationship-building skills.
Ability to translate complex safety requirements into practical solutions.
Ability to work independently and exercise sound professional judgment.
Calm, adaptable, and effective when priorities or conditions change.
Collaborative, flexible, and team-oriented approach.
Must be based in the Charlotte, North Carolina area and willing to travel regionally.
Preferred Qualifications
CSP – Certified Safety Professional strongly preferred.
Previous Safety Director or senior safety leadership experience in construction or a related industry.
Experience overseeing multiple projects, locations, programs, or safety professionals.
Experience advising executives and operational leadership.
Experience presenting, writing professional articles, mentoring, or participating in industry associations.
The Leader We Are Seeking
You may be a strong fit if you can connect just as effectively in the boardroom as on a construction site. You enjoy solving complicated problems, remain calm when others see chaos, challenge conventional thinking productively, and understand that great safety leadership depends on trust, credibility, communication, and influence.
Most importantly, you believe leadership is measured by the capability you create in others, not simply by the authority you hold.
